What's Happening in Kindergarten?
Mrs. McLoughlin's Class
The Kindergarten students have been working very hard developing their core literacy skills so that they are ready to start reading groups. We have been learning our letter names and letter sounds, in addition to learning some beginning sight words. Below, you can see the students hard at work learning the sight word “and” in Mrs. McLoughlin’s class.
Ms. Medeiros' Class
Here are the students completing some of their literacy activities in Ms. Medeiros’ kindergarten classroom. In addition to learning the letter names, the children have been learning many new high-frequency words, how to track print, how to buddy read, and learning how to identify first sounds in words. We have also been using the Telian Lively letters program which encourages a multi-modal approach to learning the letter sounds. The children have also been working on their Core Lexia online reading program to further strengthen their literacy skills. When the children earn their certificates, we celebrate their success!
Ms. Paltsios' Class
Here are some students practicing their Literacy skills in Miss P’s Kindergarten class. Our class has been working really hard on letter names, letter sounds and beginning sight words. We are beginning to use the sounds we know in our writing and starting to blend simple words in our reading. Please enjoy some pictures below!
Mrs. Garland's Class
In Mrs. Garland’s Kindergarten class we have been busy learning to be readers, and developing a love of literature! We thoroughly enjoyed meeting our “Reading Buddies” in Mrs. Howes’ 4th Grade classroom, and having the opportunity to read with them. We are looking forward to our next visit!
We were also fortunate enough to have former K students return to our classroom and read to us. The older students at Studley are wonderful role models, and truly motivate the younger students to want to read.
As a class, we enjoy reading together in our library area, during independent reading time, and with our decodable books during circle. We also enjoy celebrating our success in Lexia by earning a Lexia Superstar Certificate each time we pass a level!
